  • More gratuitous photos of this gorgeous set
  • My translation progress

Includes:
  • What I've learned about the brand

The Hanbang Set Project: Part III; 15 Flavours of Fermentation, Sketchy Science, & Mold that will Melt Your Face

Includes:
  • What the 15 fermented Hanbang ingredients are
  • Totally unsubstantiated claims about ingredient benefits
  • A breakdown of the 백수오 Vitality Cream ingredients, both Good & Bad

This week I was determined to translate the entirety of the info card that came with the set, as I'm nearly at the end of the month and thus this project!

In this post:
  • What I learned about the brand
  • Translations of the entire infocard
  • Sap/Toner description and directions
  • Lotion description and directions
  • Eye Cream description and directions
  • Wild Herb Cream description and directions
  • Cynanchum wilfordii Vitality Cream description and directions
  • Pomegranate Pack description and directions
  • What I learned about the Pomegranate pack (that made me wish I had done this sooner)
All I'll say for now is that I have been missing out.  I thought that the Cynanchum wilfordii and the Pomegranate products were the same function, so either/or, but I was so, so wrong.

Weekday Randomness: Update on Haulzilla 2014; the line between high-maintenance and hoarder

Thank goodness for Weekday Randomness posts, because it gives me a loophole to post about other things without 'cheating' on my Feburary-exclusive 'Hanbang Set Project' schedule: Part I, Part II, and Part III are already live.

I had planned to do a Haulzilla/Empties post but there's no reason I can't do a wee update now, it's not like I am deliberately looking to change things up or anything, just because it's been All Hanbang All The Time! the whole month and I am feeling slightly ill at the prospect of more translations, nope not at all!  Haha. Ha. Ha. Ha.
...

OH HEY, LOOK OVER THERE, A MONKEY! *runs away*

Anyway, you might be looking at this terrifying image of and thinking to yourself "Ok, how much of that could she have possibly gone through?!"

Read the full post about the evolution of Haulzilla here!
Sure, it does look like a lot and you might be thinking it's impossible for me to have used almost all of it, but because I am a spreadsheet fanatic, you're going to see exactly how much I have left, how much I'm actively using, and how much is already empties, gifted, or discarded because my skin reacted poorly to it.

The Hanbang Set Project: Part III; 15 Flavours of Fermentation, Sketchy Science, & Mold that will Melt Your Face

Here is the third installment of My Adventures with the Mysterious Hanbang (한방) set, preceded by The Hanbang Set Project: Translations, Patch Testing, & Pictures, and The Hanbang Set Project: Part II; The Brand, Initial Thoughts, & 백수오 Vitality Cream Ingredients.

This week, I'll be exploring the plant extracts and the ingredients breakdown of the 백수오 Vitality Cream from last week, because after I had laboriously translated and posted all the ingredients, I realized it was just too much info for one post alone!

Here's the second installment of February's Project!

In last week’s blog post, I introduced the special feature I’m doing for February; instead of a motley of products and a mash up of reviews, science, and skincare, this month I'm focusing exclusively on the highly mysterious [Princess] Jeonghyo line from the Hanbang brand Buyonghwa.

This week I'll be deep diving into the hilariously mistranslated “Oh Unemployed Vitality Cream” (thanks Google!) as it was the first product I tried, the only one I've completely translated and researched, and coincidentally my favourite of the set.

In this post:
  • What I've learned about the brand
  • What I've learned about the set so far
  • My initial thoughts of the products
  • My translation progress
  • Details of the “Oh Unemployed Vitality Cream” - ingredients analysis and research
I'm just going to take a moment of silence for all the bottles of wine that were sacrificed to the translating cause; translating ingredients when you don't speak Korean is an act of madness. Even advanced Korean speakers were like "Why are you doing something so hard?!"

For beauty! For science! For the love of Asian Cosmetics!

Let's do this!

The Hanbang Set Project: Translations, Patch Testing, & Pictures

In my recent Avecko Haul - Products I purchased directly from Korea (Part I) I finished with a teaser image of the 한방 (aka Hanbang, traditional Korean herbal medicine) set of 6 products that I purchased with almost no knowledge of what was in it.

Considering that the product image looked like this, though, can you blame me?

What I did know what this: 1. it was a Hanbang set, 2. it was on a Holiday sale for $24 down from $120+, and 3. it was the most beautiful packaging I had ever seen.  I don't normally buy things that I haven't been able to exhaustively research, but when this gilded, mysterious beauty batted its ornate lids at me, I had to have it.

As you know, I have a rigorous testing schedule organized by my spreadsheet, but since this was going to be a one-time purchase and I bought this in the spirit of adventure, I'm going to do something a little different.  I am going to patch test this for allergies, but I am not going to introduce things 2 weeks apart.

For the month of February, I am going to use this entire line, all at once, as it was intended to be used.

When I found this set, I was using Google Translate's plugin in Chrome, and was bemused to see it advise me that this set contained a "Sap, Latex, Eye cream, Native Beasts, Oh Unemployed cream, Pomegranate Pack."  Oh, Google. You tried.
