I have mixed sensitive skin wich was just great before I started using Missha time revolution essence last week, an my face brokeout like Christmas cake!!! I use micelar water to remove my makeup and the wash it with the hada labo foaming soap ( the one in a tube). Then I put on the missha essence and the rest is history. I've read many blogs and my conclusion is this: my skin is not purging, but reacting to it's pH! I concluded this because I read missha's essence pH is 7. I really want it to work for me so I've all of your related posts and wanted to ask you... is I use an AHA BHA gel cleanser and then put the essence on, what will my pH be!?!?? Will it be more acidic than 7?? Super thank you!! I have a question for you reguarding cleansers.
For the last 4 months I have been doing AB and only using a emulsifying oil cleanser, no second cleanse as I don't wear any makeup.
I recently purchased the MRCS and used that as my only cleanser, and it is just not working out. The point above is just that when you have something that is baaaaarely within the acceptable range, it doesn't take much to push it out of that range. :)

You can read more here: http://www.snowwhiteandtheasianpear.com/2015/10/mating-habits-of-molecules-secret-life.htmlCat Cactushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14052704885218633917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541982013000251431.post-72755500733215567772016-02-01T22:51:48.443-08:002016-02-01T22:51:48.443-08:00So if most tap water is 7, should your cleanser op...So if most tap water is 7, should your cleanser optimally have a pH of 3? Because as mentioned above:

"Products will buffer one another's pH if you layer them (pH is a factor of 10), so if you put a pH 4 toner on top of pH 7 water, you're going to average the pH somewhere between them, which puts you out of the 'effective' pH of that toner, so dry your face before you apply a low pH product"

Water and cleanser will always come together during cleansing...so that means the water's pH would mix with the cleanser pH and meet somewhere in the middle, which in this case would be about 5 (healthy skin).

Is this correct?Evanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13705866094057815992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541982013000251431.post-55883135353726819122015-09-27T15:27:35.684-07:002015-09-27T15:27:35.684-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541982013000251431.post-9038199034021821892015-08-17T14:22:11.955-07:002015-08-17T14:22:11.955-07:00Thank you for the kind words! And my question is, wouldn't the water that we use during washing our face also raise the pH of the cleanser? I'm too lazy to use a foaming net/konjac sponge everyday and I'm thinking of using a foaming soap dispenser for my cleanser but you need to add water to those and I'm worried that it might make the cleanser too alkaline.XINGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11212356932296239013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541982013000251431.post-3612137683047332482015-05-28T11:04:45.238-07:002015-05-28T11:04:45.238-07:00I wish there were a Like button here! :)I wish there were a Like button here! :)Skinsleuthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03722734650423053819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541982013000251431.post-32654562857126962152015-05-28T11:00:08.116-07:002015-05-28T11:00:08.116-07:00Ha ha! Let me try that again:

Hi Tricia,

I feel your pain! If you are on a budget, I would start with these 3 things:
-Sunscreen (you can check out RatzillaCosme's site for physical sunscreens)
-Cleanser (to remove the sunscreen)
-Moisturizer

Those 3 products will give you a basic routine that will be very affordable. Once you have those basics down, you can start looking at things that will improve your skin, such as chemical exfoliants and antioxidant serums, which are the bread and butter of anti-aging. BHA, AHA, and Vitamin C serums are all things that should help with the issues that you have, but you need to have a sunscreen + basic routine in place first. AHA is photosensitizing so a good sunscreen is non-optional.

If you would prefer not to have your email address floating around the internets, just shoot me an email at mine; it's linked at the top under 'Contact.' :)Cat Cactushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14052704885218633917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541982013000251431.post-81517624639781157132015-05-18T23:49:12.801-07:002015-05-18T23:49:12.801-07:00I have to agree with the above comment... you writ...I have to agree with the above comment... you write very informative posts. I've recently been looking into Asian skincare products to help me get my skin in better shape. Anything you can recommend, good toners, serums, exfoliating products (that will not strip my skin), any sun spot correctors, best physical sunscreen etc ANYTHING! I know it's asking a lot , but I'm ready to get great products (But I can't afford to spend $100 per product lol) that will help me feel beautiful again. I'm so desperate. I do my best to educate myself but si...Aw, thanks! I do my best to educate myself but since I'm not a professional, I always encourage folks to do their research as well :)

As for the question about raising and then lowering pH, I have a two-part answer:

Part 1: I wouldn't recommend raising-then-lowering-pH as a general approach, because just like if you burn your hand and then stick it in cold water, yes you have 'lowered' the temperature of your skin back down, but by that point, the damage is already done. Cooling your hand off doesn't undo the damage that was done by burning your hand in the first place. Then apply that analogy to a high-pH cleanser; if you were slightly burning and then cooling your hand twice a day, every day, it wouldn't be good for the long-term health of your skin. (You can read studies that discuss the long-term cumulative damage from repeat pH raising of the skin that are linked in my post here: http://snowwhiteandthepear.blogspot.com/2014/09/skincare-discovery-why-ph-of-your.html

Part 2: The above being said, pH 6 is not a huge spike. I personally have decided that I'm avoiding everything that is higher than the upper range of natural skin (pH 5.6) but that's just a personal choice I made based off the research I had done. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't use it if you feel that it's an acceptable range. pH is not the be-all and end-all concern, it's just one more moving piece in your skincare landscape ;) I have chosen to eliminate that factor so I can get away with other things, such as a routine that heavily features chemical exfoliation, which might be too irritating for some people. For me, I take pains to eliminate as many potential irritants or stressors on my skin, so I can slather myself in delicious acids without guilt. Think of it as eating healthy every day so I can splurge on something deep-fried and naughty on the weekend ;) But that's my decisions for my routine, only you can assess all the pieces of your routine and decide what's best for you. :)Cat Cactushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14052704885218633917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541982013000251431.post-16438300677935311242015-03-09T07:08:13.825-07:002015-03-09T07:08:13.825-07:00The Hada Labo HA lotion is definitely a long-term ...The Hada Labo HA lotion is definitely a long-term resident on my wishlist, actually!
